What is an STI Screen?

At Trinity Clinic, we offer discreet and confidential STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) Screens. We provide a range of options to suit your needs.

The main STIs that we screen for are Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Syphilis, HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. Genital Herpes and Genital Warts are assessed by clinical exam. Other non-sexually transmitted infections, such as Candida (Thrush) and Bacterial Vaginosis are sometimes detected, and can be easily treated.

Please note that some STIs do not cause symptoms.

You can request a male or female doctor on booking your appointment.

Routine STI Screen

This includes a doctor taking your medical history and performing a physical exam.

Blood tests are taken for HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C (depending on risk).

A Urine sample tests for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea. You should avoid urinating for 2 hours before giving the sample to ensure that results are accurate.

Depending on your symptoms, you may have swabs taken. Women may have an endocervical swab taken from the cervix (neck of the womb.) This is similar to having a cervical smear taken.

MSM (Men who have sex with men) will also have pharyngeal (throat) and rectal swabs taken.

Rapid HIV Test

Rapid HIV Test

It’s the first rapid point-of-care test that detects both HIV-1/2 antibodies and the HIV-1 p24 antigen, which can appear just 12 to 26 days after infection.

It provides clear results in just 20 minutes (while you wait), with built-in quality controls to let you know the test is working.

The test specimen can be serum, plasma, fingerstick or venous whole blood.
